LOOKING AHEAD IN 2024

On Sunday 12th May we join forces with colleagues in the preservation world when one of our vehicles will operate free bus services based on Alresford station on the Watercress Line.

We shall be participating in Winchester Heritage Open Days with free vintage bus services from 10:00 to 16:00 on Sunday 15th September.  More information in due course.

For only £30 you can become a Friend of King Alfred Buses.  Click on 'Membership' for more details.  In this way you can keep up with all the latest developments and take part in various members' activities.

If you would like to buy one of our sales items by mail order, click on 'Souvenirs & Books' to see details of what we have and how to order.

On 8th December 2023 a serious fire broke out at Penton Mewsey where several historic buses are kept.  Amongst other vehicles not owned by us, Leyland Olympic JAA 708 was severely damaged.  Further details are in the news section under 'The Friends'.  The book which tells the story of JAA 708 is still available, with an update about the effects of the fire.  Click on 'Souvenirs & Books' for ordering information.

Lost Property Enquiries:  If you have lost something on one of our vehicles, please phone 07771 828918.

Hello

Founded in 1985, we are a Winchester based transport heritage charity whose volunteers aim to preserve the memory of R Chisnell & Sons, trading as King Alfred Motor Services.

Vehicles

We preserve all known remaining vehicles which worked for King Alfred - some 16 to be precise! We show our vehicles and often give free rides at events across the South.

Community

We meet regularly to celebrate our work and to enjoy the vehicles we preserve. Our friendly group is always welcoming of new members and are always keen to share!

As a registered charity we rely heavily on donations to continue our work, especially in these difficult times.
